Know Your Dry Hopper — R2Hop2

R2Hop2 Know Your Dry Hopper R2Hop2
People often wonder what the life of a Dry Hopping machine is like. It is actually quite sordid. Hooking up with various fermentation tanks and mugging for pictures with visitors leaves R2Hop2 little time to relax and enjoy the dream. But he always says, “beep boop beep” (literally translated to “But it could be worse. I could be working in human-cyborg relations”). R2Hop2′s chipper and upbeat attitude always leaves people smiling. His hip-hopiness is why he was the obvious choice as the spokesperson for the Brewery’s musicfest. That, and Cher was busy.

Favorite Quote: “Balling on beats got hops like breweries. Sideline haters need to chill where the cooler is.”

Darth Vader or Darth Maul: Darth Vader

Favorite Animal: Tauntan

Second Best Thing You Can Imagine: Dry Hopping a Double IPA, no strings attached.

Know Your Production Planner — AC Lucas

AC2 Know Your Production Planner AC Lucas
Take a visit to the brewery any weekday morning before the sun rises (which we don’t recommend at all) and you will find A.C., our Production Planner and Material Procurement Expert. Like any respectable brewery, Fordham and Dominion Brewing does have a resident professional golfer, and that person is A.C. A former golf professional and current member of the PGA, he can often be found on the four-hole golf course surrounding the brewery.

When A.C. is not busy making the brewery run, he enjoys playing golf, taking his RV out for a spin, and smoking cigars.

Favorite Quote: “It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark, and we’re wearing sunglasses”

Batman or Superman: Superman… obviously!

Favorite Animal: My dog, Gus

Second Best Thing You Can Imagine: Putting on my socks and realizing “Hey, these don’t have any holes!”

Know Your Cellarman- Travis

travis3 Know Your Cellarman Travis

Meet Travis, our friendly neighborhood Cellarman. Travis works the bottling line, kegging station and warehouse.  He’s usually seen flying by on a forklift, making someone laugh or hard at work helping Fordham and Dominion package our products.  He’s also a frequent helper at our many events- pouring beer, helping with tours and manning the grill at S.I.N. Night.

When he’s not hard at work at the brewery Travis enjoys spending time with his 5 kids.  He loves perfecting his cannon ball in the pool or landscaping a backyard oasis. Family time is key.

Travis loves riding his motorcycle- we can hear him a mile away! He frequently takes road trips with his friends to Mid-Atlantic cities.  He loves Old School R&B music like Barry White and Minnie Ripleton and lives by the quote “Don’t stress over things you can’t control.”

Cheers to Travis for his hard work and great attitude!

Tomorrow marks National Root Beer Day- we’re holding public tours of the brewery and giving out free Mini-Root Beer Floats.  Come in for a tour at 1230 or 2PM and grab one while supplies last!

Know Your Office Manager- LuAnne

knowluanne Know Your Office Manager LuAnne

Meet LuAnne! Our Office Manager has been here since day one! Starting in 2003, LuAnne was part of a four-person team known then only as Fordham Brewing Company.  She recalls hard days working the bottling line, giving impromptu tours and rounding up additional help with the promise of free beer and pizza! She still does a little of everything- “Anything but brewing” she says.

LuAnne enjoys jammin’ to Country and Pop music- “Newer country. No twang. No Oldies.”  She also enjoys NASCAR racing (which comes to Dover Downs twice a year), reading Murder-Mystery books and spending time with her Grandson Austen.

If you’ve called us here at Fordham and Dominion chances are LuAnne’s greeted you with a “Good Morning.”  Answering the increasingly-busy phone lines, handling shipping and inventory to name a few, LuAnne is a true multi-tasker. Cheers LuAnne for all your hard work!

Know Your Logistics Coordinator

Written on June 14, 2011 at 9:20 am, by CCain

gavin3 Know Your Logistics Coordinator

Meet Gavin Sluder!  Gavin is our Logistics Coordinator here at the brewery.  He works out the point A and point B’s of our beers- the fine details that none of us think about when pouring a pint.  Driving forklifts with the skill and speed of a Nascar driver, Gavin reorganizes and manages the brewery warehouse, packaging materials, loads trucks, and handles shipments of beer and sodas. But this isn’t Gavin’s first time at the Rodeo- he’s been with Old Dominion Brewing Company since 2001! He worked at the original brewery in Ashburn, Virginia moving to Dover when the company merged with Fordham.

Gavin remains a true Virginia native, staying versed in Civil War and military history. “Its pretty much law being from Virginia,” he says. “You’ve gotta know the stuff.” Gavin is also interested in current affairs, politics and documentaries.  In his spare time he enjoys the sounds of the “Early 70’s Rolling Stones- with Mick Taylor on guitar,” the Clash, and the Pixies. Favorite films include the works of Stanley Kubrick, the Coen Brothers and Martin Scorsese.

Here’s to Gavin, although a quiet guy, his hard work speaks for him loud and clear. Cheers Gavin!

Know your Cellarman- Mike

mike31 Know your Cellarman Mike

Meet Mike McNaught.  A member of the Fordham/Dominion family for over 6 years now, Mike began work as a Kegger.  He moved on to the Brewhouse as an assistant brewer and is now settled into his job as Head Cellarman.  Capable of working each job in the brewery, Mike currently watches over the bottling line, runs the filter and helps the brewers with the fermentation tanks.  He likes working on filtering the most because it involves a series of specific steps. “I usually go by a list and get it done, one thing at a time.”

Mike enjoys music not found on the radio, including Cannibal Corpse, Nina Simone, Swans and “anything with Mike Patton.”  His music can be heard loudly over our brewery speakers on Saturday mornings when he comes in to make our delicious craft sodas.  Not a fan of beer, Mike loves enjoying a bottle of Dominion Root Beer while playing his favorite game- World of Warcraft. “I’m juggling five characters right now, all of which in the level 80s, but I’m pretty focused on my Tauren Warrior.”  A true multitasker, Mike never ceases to impress us.  Cheers for all your hard work!

Know Your Handyman- Dan

Written on April 19, 2011 at 10:53 am, by CCain

dan31 Know Your Handyman DanMeet Dan Louder! A Dover native, Dan has worked just under a year for Fordham and Dominion, starting in May of 2010.  A jack of all trades, Dan is our handyman here at the brewery, helping out wherever he can and taking on the tasks most of us scratch our heads at. Dan works the bottling line, helps the brewers transfer batches, and builds things for the brewery.

Dan enjoys hunting and riding his “motor-sicle” when the weather’s right.  He loves spending time with his girlfriend Jennifer and her son Jacob, and visiting the family beach house in Ocean City Maryland, where he once worked for Seacrets.  As far as music, Dan likes a little bit of everything- country, rap, bluegrass, rock…he says “Basically, if it’s good music- I’ll listen to it!”  He likes to enjoy a glass of Hop Mountain or Oak Barrel Stout and is a big fan of our Fordham Scotch Ale.

A quote Dan lives by? “Walt (the headbrewer) is always right.”But in all seriousness, Dan admires this quote- “In order to have things you’ve never had, you must do things you’ve never done.”  His latest, and dare I say greatest project is building our magnificent Tasting Room! Every detail from the wall paint to the bar top was Dan’s work.  The new tasting room is in its final stages and should be completed within the next week or two! Come check out Dan’s handy work and have a few samples! Cheers Dan!
