Monk Czech 300x300 Dominion Brewing and Dawson’s Liquors to Release Monk Czech Collaboration

Dover, DE – Dominion Brewing and Dawson’s Liquors are collaborating on Monk Czech, a Czech Pilsner inspired Belgian-style Ale, set to release June 1.

Legend has it this Belgian style ale was first brewed in 1840 using black market malt smuggled out of Plzeň by monks. Recognizing those OGs, this hip-hop-inspired ale gives a head nod to risk-takers and dreamers.  This Brewer/Retailer collaboration utilized Saaz, Tradition, Motueka and Nelson Sauvin Hops and Pilsner Malt, for a crisp, summer beer that sneaks in at 5.2% ABV and 45 IBUs.  Release parties are planned for June 6th at Max’s Taphouse and June 20th at DC 9, featuring three live bands. Learn more about how this unique Brewer/Retailer comradeship came to pass at www.monkczech.com.

Casey Hollingsworth, Fordham & Dominion Vice President of Sales, opined, “Last year we got together with the Dawson’s guys and played around with this beer and did some draft-only events around town.  We both felt so positive about the response that we decided to do a general market release this year.  I think working alongside people in the same industry, who are from a different tier, helps you gain perspective all the way around.”

Walter Trifari, head brewer of Fordham & Dominion, described the process of creating Monk Czech, “Brewing with the team from Dawson’s was a real treat. Not only do they have a great outlet for beer, but they all know so much about styles and flavor. Once we brainstormed some ideas about what they were looking for, we could almost taste the final result.  Monk Czech will be a mainstay for everybody’s back porch barbeque parties!!”

Danny Cipriano, Beer Manager of Dawson’s Liquors said, “When Dominion approached us to create this beer, we couldn’t have been happier. Walter and his brewing staff were incredible to work with. It’s a fantastic experience when people on both sides of the industry get together to share their knowledge and make something special.”

Monk Czech will be available in 22oz bombers and on draft in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Pinup Pack Dominion Brewing Deploys Pinup Pack

Dover, DE –Dominion Brewing has released the “Pinup Pack”, a variety 12-pack containing three of its popular Bomber Girls.

The Pinup Pack will contain Double D IPA, Morning Glory Espresso Stout and GiGi’s Farmhouse Ale. Originally bottled in 22-ounce bombers last year, Double D and Morning Glory made the switch to 12-ounce bottles earlier in the year. GiGi joins them in the 12-ounce format exclusively for the Pinup Pack. She will be replaced by Candi, a Belgian Tripel, in September.

President and CEO of Fordham & Dominion Brewing, Jim Lutz, stated, “Our goal with the Pinup Pack is to introduce more people to Double D, Glory and GiGi. The variety pack gives us a great platform to showcase each beer’s unique personality.”

All three pinups are available in 12-ounce bottles and on draft throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Double D and Morning Glory are also packaged in six-packs on a year-round basis.

Travels with R3 – Dominion Brewing Sales Blog

Written on March 13, 2013 at 7:36 am, by lbigelow

Good Afternoon fellow beer lovers and welcome to Dominion Brewing first traveling beer blog. I will take you along my journey to uncharted territory to spread the gospel of great beer to our friends in the Ohio and Michigan. By the end we will have marked our territory by filling empty shelves with great beer and flowing beer from taps across this great region.

Ohio and Michigan Beers 150x150 Travels with R3 Dominion Brewing Sales Blog

To start my journey lets include everyone in what exactly is going on and there is no better way than to answer the 5 Ws.

Who: Me, but for those of you who are unfamiliar with me allow me introduce myself. My name is Ryan Aldridge, but around the brewery they know me as R3, and I am Maryland Market Manager for Dominion Brewing Company.  I enjoy cooking, random adventures, the great outdoors, basketball and BEER. I was born and raised in Northern California and moved to Maryland after graduating college (Go Beach). My favorite beer is Oak Barrel Stout with a nice braised beef short rib.  For my adventure I will be bringing a sidekick because no great adventure can be done alone.  Zac, a Beer Bambi, has been known to hit the streets from time to time a sling a few cases of beer for Dominion. Together we are unstoppable tandem that plan to take over.

What: Our goal is to increase Dominion’s footprint through out this territory.  We want to reach this goal by explaining what and why Dominion brand beers are on the forefront of the craft beer movement.

When: Over the next 9 days and 1000 miles

Where: Starting out from my cozy rowhouse in Baltimore, Maryland and driving to Columbus, Ohio for a few days, then traveling up to Cleveland. From there we will pack up and head to the Rave tradeshow outside of Detroit and spend a few days there before we embark for the trip home.

Why: TO HAVE FUN! And of course, show Michigan and Ohio how great our beers are!

Day 1:

Well, as assumed by most, we got ourselves lost.  Whilst Ryan and myself were discussing the distance between Columbus and Cleveland, we noticed that we were heading North, not West.  DAGGER! At least if would have been for two un-cool and un-smooth operators.  However being explorers, we turned it into a quite site-seeing tour.  Check off PNC Park, Home of the Pirates, and Heinz Field, home of the d Steelers.  We turned a mistake, into a drive through of Pittsburgh.

Double D and Morning Glory Packaging 300x225 Dominion Brewing Announces Six Packs of Double D and Morning Glory

Dover, DE – Dominion Brewing fan favorites Double D and Morning Glory will be moving from 22oz bombers to 12oz six packs.

At the end of February, pinup girls Double D and Morning Glory will be welcomed to the Dominion Brewing year-round family.  Double D is a full-bodied Imperial India Pale Ale, flaunting sultry guava, mango, and tropical fruit aromas as a result of dry hopping with Citra, Zythos and Crystal hops.  Brewed with light toasted malt and Bravo bittering hops, this double delights with smooth warming alcohols and a torrid finish.  This daring draft will deploy at 9.0% ABV and 90 IBUs. Glory is a full-bodied Espresso Stout that utilizes locally roasted coffee beans.  Waking up at 9% ABV with the aroma of espresso and taste of chocolate, she will give drinkers a jolt.

President and CEO of Fordham & Dominion Brewing, Jim Lutz, stated, “When we sat down to design the artwork for our pinup series we made sure that the labels reflected the personality of the beer inside.  Our visionary artist, Ryan Telle, really nailed it with Double D and Morning Glory. We are excited to bring this remarkable artwork to six-packs.”

Morning Glory and Double D will be available in 12oz six-packs and on draft. They will hit shelves and taps in the Mid-Atlantic region in March 2013.

Dominion Brewing Announces Release of Cherry Blossom Lager!

Written on March 6, 2013 at 7:30 am, by lbigelow

Cherry Lager Label 872x1024 Dominion Brewing Announces Release of Cherry Blossom Lager!

Dover, DE – Due to the overwhelming positive feedback on its limited release last year, Cherry Blossom Lager will be released as Dominion Brewing’s 2013 Spring Seasonal.

Cherry Blossom Lager is conditioned on a bed of 300 pounds of Michigan cherries for 48 hours prior to packaging.  Pale, Carafoam, Munich, and Vienna malts provide a crisp backbone, while the subtle addition of Perle and Tradition hops allows the fruit to transcend this delight.  Blushing pink, effervescent, and tasting lightly of cherry champagne, it will be released in time for the Cherry Blossom festival in Washington, DC.  For the label artwork, the brewery chose to interpret a passage from “Alice in Wonderland”.

Vice President of Sales for Fordham & Dominion Brewing, Casey Hollingsworth, stated, “What says ‘Springtime is here’ more than Cherry Blossoms?  Keith Chmiel, who runs our DC Distributor (Capital Eagle), had the idea for a Cherry Lager last year and asked us to do a test batch, draft-only, just for Washington, DC.  The brewers made it happen and the feedback was great-so we decided to make it our Spring Seasonal for Dominion in 2013.”

Cherry Blossom Lager will be available in six-packs and on draft. It will hit shelves and taps in the Mid-Atlantic region in March 2013.

Dominion Brewing Wakes Up With Morning Glory Espresso Stout

Written on November 12, 2012 at 7:07 am, by lbigelow

MorningGloryforweb Dominion Brewing Wakes Up With Morning Glory Espresso Stout

Dover, DE – The Dominion Brewing Co. will awaken Morning Glory, a full-bodied espresso stout, on November 15, 2012.

Morning Glory will be Dominion’s final pin-up inspired “Bomber Girl” for 2012. Glory is a robust espresso stout brewed with locally roasted coffee beans. Chocolate, crystal, smoked, and wheat malts contribute to the rich body and flavor. Bravo hops provide the bitterness and clean fruit notes. Glory wakes up at 9% ABV and 60 IBUs with the aroma of espresso and hints of chocolate. Available for a limited time only, she will be on draft and in conditioned 22oz bottles.

Master Brewer Walter Trifari stated, “For us, the concept of this beer was all about collaboration: both in the partnership between our brewery and the local coffee shop, Espresso-N-Ice, and the blending of toasted, chocolate stout flavors with coffee beans. We chose to seek out a local coffee roaster for this beer to make sure that the coffee beans used would be up to our standards. With the help of Espresso-N-Ice, we were able to participate in perfectly roasting the 65 pounds of coffee that the stout was warmed on for 13 days. That extra effort has allowed us to create an exquisitely balanced, full-flavored espresso stout and a community partnership that will extend well beyond the production of this beer.”

GABF Octoberfest 300x300 Dominion Octoberfest Wins Bronze at GABF

Dover, DE – Dominion Octoberfest was awarded the bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival in the Marzen style beer category.

One of Dominion’s seasonal offerings, Octoberfest is a traditional German Maerzen. An amber colored lager, it contains three hop varieties, Tradition, Saaz and Hallertau, and eight malts, including Vienna, Munich, Caramunich, Wheat, Dark Crystal, Carafoam and Chocolate. It is 6.0% ABV and 20 IBUs.

Walter Trifari, Dominion Head Brewer, stated, “Octoberfest has a long list of medals and we are happy to add to the collection. Unlike our year-round beers, we have not had the luxury of brewing several batches throughout the year in order to keep perfecting it. This is a testament that our brewery takes every batch very seriously from grain to glass. PROST!!”

This marks Dominion Octoberfest’s sixth GABF win. Additionally, it took silver at the Cap City Oktoberfest this year. It will return to shelves next year.

Dominion Root Beer Featured in People Magazine

Written on October 24, 2012 at 11:24 am, by lbigelow

photo 4 300x300 Dominion Root Beer Featured in People Magazine

Dover, DE – Dominion Brewing’s Root Beer recently appeared in People Magazine’s article “Cheers! Cocktail Recipes for Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.”

The publication shared drink recipes perfected by the Washington, D.C. Topaz Bar, in recognition of the upcoming election. As an irreverent nod to Romney’s Mormon background, Dominion’s caffeine-free Root Beer featured prominently as the root beer of choice in the Romney Float.

In response to the People article, the Dominion Brewing Company hand-delivered two cases of Root Beer to GOP headquarters in Washington, D.C., addressed to Gov. Romney. In the event Romney wins the election, the brewery hopes this will persuade him to replace the soda in the White House soda fountain, installed by Lyndon Johnson, with Dominion Root Beer.

Dominion Root Beer was recently imbibed by an American gold medalist at the 2012 London Olympics. Created from an original American recipe procured from the Library of Congress, it is caffeine-free and does not contain high fructose corn syrup. Root Beer is a member of the Dominion soft drink portfolio, along with Ginger Ale, Black Cherry, and Creamy Orange soda.
